Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor Secondary Rod and Hangar Tuning
Secondary rod and hangar selection is key to performance. There are multiple combinations that can be created to achieve the performance you are looking for. First look in between the AV flaps.
You will see a little screw that accepts a torx bit. Nobody ever uses a torx bit to remove this screw! Use a pair of pliers to remove it. Of coarse if you have a small enough torx bit handy go ahead and use it.
A lot of tuners will use either a Dremel tool or hack saw to modify the screw to accept a flat-headed screwdriver.
Simply remove the hangar and rod assembly making sure (as always) to note the original position as to make installing them easier and to remove the risk of bending or distorting the rod/hangar assembly.
Once you have decided on what rod/hangar combination to use, simply install them making sure not to force the rods into place. An excellent rod/hangar chart can be found at http://www.hioutput.com/tech/qjetrod.html .
