Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor Guide

Rebuild your Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor

When you remove the top plate you will notice several things.  First, attached to the top plate are 2 pointed rods.  These are called "secondary rods".  They control how much fuel is supplied to the secondary under hard acceleration.  To remove them hold the top plate level.

With the rods handing down, gently position them so that they are positioned horizontally and pull them from the hangar.  I like to take a very light sand paper to the rods and polish them - insuring that all debris and buildup has been removed.

Near the front section of the car you will see a wide cavity with either a metal or plastic float inside.  Simply pull up on the float and it will come out of the carburetor main body.

There will be a needle attached to the front part of the float lever.  This is the needle that regulates how much fuel enters the fuel bowl.

Of coarse the float tells the needle when to open (e.g..  Fuel level gets low, float drops which pulls up on needle allowing fuel to enter fuel bowl)  With a large flat tipped screwdriver you can go ahead and remove the "seat assembly".  This is part the needle was sitting in.

Remove the "accelerator plunger" which is located on the drivers side front of the carburetor.  Also remove the check-ball.  These items will not be re-used.
